This channel is dedicated to making how-to, travel, and review videos related to my BMW R1200GSA, Honda Forza NSS300A, KTM 690 Enduro and BMW R100/7. If you are looking for any Chomiczewski family related videos I moved them to a new channel named "Mark Chomiczewski" at ua-cam.com/channels/sCF1dYDSpRaWnMJ8agtYpw.html . I will eventually move all sports related video content still on this channel to another channel.

BMW R1200GSA Starter Clutch Sound Check
A subscriber dropped his R1200GS and started hearing a whining noise when he started the bike. He was concerned that sound was coming from the timing chain, sprocket or chain tensioner. He sent me a video and to me it sounded like it was coming from the starter clutch, so my suggestion was to check the sound without the engine running. I made this video as instruction on how to crank the engine without starting it, to determine if that whining sound was coming from the starter clutch or something else in the engine. This video shows what the R1200GSA starter clutch sounds like normally. I will update the video once I hear back from the subscriber on what he found.

I strap my luggage bag to the seat
I know how to do the job and done it before but was a random watch while eating breakfast on a Sunday morning. I must say this is the best service/repair video i have every seen. The production is great and high quality and you are straight to the point not talking crap and waffling on like others. Excellent work mate for taking the time to make this video. Cheers!
first of all I want to thank you for this gem of a youtube channel , I hope you reach tens of millions of subscribers cause you deserve it , your videos and the effort you have put in is really awesome. thank you so much for the deepest part of my heart.
Thanks for the very informative video. I just had new tires mounted and was going to do my brakes whilst the wheel was off, then I saw your video, so I lubed the spline too. I put a zip tie through the u joint and made a loop so I could lift up the shaft and u joint as I brought up the rear. Took quite a few tries, but I had it sorted in about 20 minutes. Cut off the zip tie after I got the bolt back in…….worked well. Thanks again.
@20pump - Thanks for the zip tie tip, great to hear feedback on how folks get the job done. Cheers!
What an excellent video! The process, pace, detail and explanation is top quality. My lap top and you will be guiding me through my 12K mileage service on my R1250 GSA. Big Thank You for your time and skill in producing such quality videos. Martin
@martin9756 - Martin, thanks for watching and commenting, it is appreciated! Best of luck when you perform the service.
Not bad at all for a sub300cc motor 👍
@Mootpoint Jones - Yes, she’s a keeper!
Amazing, well done!!! These really are excellent videos.
@jaycourant5394 - Thank you very much, glad to hear they are helpful in some way. Happy wrenching!
My clutch feels like it's slipping when I'm hard on throttle like when overtaking. Only done 18k miles. Any ideas?
@booshallmighty - What year? Did it just start slipping or for how long has it been this way? To me the clutch is either worn or needs an adjustment. Low miles makes me think it needs an adjustment. But curious if this is a sudden change or gradual?
@@zooskifilms It's 2018 model like R1200 GS. 18k. It did just come out of nowhere. Seems to get worse but that could be me being aware of it. Happens under hard acceleration. Feels like it's slipping, the revs run away with the bike and don't match the engine speed. Really hope it's not the clutch, this bike is in good order, I don't go off road or even in the rain. Typical GS adventure rider. I heard someone adjusting a grub screw behind the lever? I dunno
❤❤❤great video
@Vjekoslav-vf3hr - Thanks for watching and for the comment, it is appreciated!

Hi there, great work! I am having exactly the same issue the bike sometimes doesn’t 1st gear from neutral some times also from 2nd to 1st will this solve my problem? What do you think? What do I have to check? Thanks in advance!Stratos from Greece
@user-zx4hb1ec9v - Hello to Stratos Greece! Thank you for watching and your question. Regarding your question, does it drop into gear if you walk the bike forward or back? When in 2nd going to 1st, is it difficult to shift while in motion or at a stop?
@@zooskifilms it happened only a couple of times so not sure as I was stationary, but one time when I was moving from 2nd to 1st like 7-10km per hour didn’t downshift. Also when I am stationary I can put 2nd gear 2 times happened, as I could not put it in 1st!
@@user-zx4hb1ec9v - Ok understood. The next time you are stationary and in N try rolling the bike forward or backward a half meter and try again. If it drops into 1st then I don't think the issue is air in the clutch. If it doesn't, then I would try bleeding the clutch line.
exceptionally awesome quality of video! man, you have a gift for both explaining things and the camera work. Cheers, my friend! Really love this video. Liked and subscribed.
@revedmunds - Thank you very much for watching, commenting and the sub, it is very much appreciated! I wish I had more time to make videos, hope to be releasing some new ones this summer. Cheers!
Great video but 20 minutes???😂
@barneyrubble4827 - Too short or too long? Haha!
It is wise to put grease on the front joint of the bellows....... But it would be even better to also put some on its rear part where the humidity will be able to pass through just as much......
@sergechappaz6734 - Thanks for the comment!
Does this upgrade require a change to the fuel management system? It’s allowing more flow , in this case it may be running slightly lean without a change to the flow of fuel air mixture . Due to this being an electronic fuel injected engine, perhaps it recalibrates the mixture automatically?
@flyinphil42 - Yes, technically you are correct, one should check and re-map anytime making changes to the fuel or air. I did not re-map the fuel system because I did not feel much difference in the performance, so I assumed all is well. I should have addressed this point in this video. Thank you for bringing this question! Cheers!
@@zooskifilms from what I can see is the aftermarket exhaust usually comes with a larger pipe. Do you notice any difference in performance?
@@flyinphil42 - Not much, but if anything it seemed peppier with the new exhaust. In the end I reverted back to the factory exhaust because my wife complained it sounded like a Harley🤣
Need to be replaced with Gear Transimission Oil,not with the Motor Oil...it's not the same oil
@handle1974 - Normally I would agree with you but the service manual calls for the same oil. Perhaps the moly in oil makes it gear friendly, or at least good enough. If you are doing something different would be great for the community to hear what your experience has been. Cheers!
Hi sir How many kilometres it must be to do this?
@user-zb8em1mw2e - The service manual states- Inspect every 25,600km (or 16,000 miles). Hope this helps!
Wrenching on moto, no background music/sounds, soothing voice commentary...I fall asleep to this.

There's also a trick to put the shims back in. You use the magnetic pen again and position the shim and then push down on it with the magnetic pen and slowly slide it off to the side.
@user-ld6wo4rv8h - Yeah, my telescoping magnet was way too strong for these shims, a pen magnet sounds more appropriate. Great tip, thank you for sharing!
Excellent video and commentary. I may have to do exactly the same to my bike. Same model. Thanks again.
@Sweep29 - Thank you very much for watching and commenting, and hope the video helps!

@shemi4444 - Thanks for your comment, but I didn't quite understand your point. Do you mean the model year 2010 vs 2012? Thank you again!
Try using a smaller magnetic pen next time. Also, you don't need to label them if you do them one at a time.
@user-ld6wo4rv8h - Thanks for the feedback and tips, great information for the community! Cheers!
Hi, why you removed the battery if it doesn't interfere on the service.
@danielvilalba1966 - Thanks for your question. I removed the battery because you have a better visual on the starter motor mounting bolts and as a general practice I always disconnect the battery when touching anything electrical on the bike.
how to change the rear brake light bulb?? thank you
@juliangalvan8602 - Hello - you have several steps to get to the rear brake light. I will try to make a video this week, unfortunately it is not a simple job! I will let you know when the video is ready.
112k ppl watched the video and said fuck it I will take it to the service 😂
@pravinovosadjanin - Haha, well, it's not as bad as it might look. Just give yourself enough time to tackle this job. I might post a surtvey to see how many foilks actually did the job themselevs. Cheers!
@@zooskifilms I have my own shop I fix motorcycles for living. So I do this on weekly basis. Very helpful video for diy guys. Keep up the good work.
@@pravinovosadjanin- Understood. Good for the community to hear your comments, it helps them decide for themselves if they want to tackle the job or just take it in. How long since you replaced it? 50 years? I've never seen a filter that dirty before. 😂
@paulh7798 - Perhaps it's the dust in Thailand, my Forza in the USA is no where close to that dirty!
A lot of makers including BMW used to design their bikes with users and service in mind; forget which bike but there was a model that was designed 'field serviceable' these days engineers seem to assume everyone will just take their bikes to the shop - unless you are riding 10+ year old bikes -I've owned an R1150R, an R1200 and a 1250GS - its rather obvious BMW cares less and less how difficult it is to service their bikes. This is a shame; one way that people fell in love with motorcycles was fixing them over a weekend with friends. Somebody in marketing should be told this!
@Kobe29261 - Amen to that!
Brilliant video, thankyou. I need to replace the cam chain sprocket carrier for the later type with better lubrication. Is this possible without removing the cams and upsetting the timing?

I never can understand a feeler gauge reading like the number on the feeler gauge it self
@evansjean - Yeah it can be confusing since the numbers could either be in inches or mm. But the number stamped or etched on each piece is the thickness of the feeler gauge itself. Just be sure you know if you need mm or inches.

Hi, thank you for the videos! I have r1200r. Would Your r1200gs videos be a good fit for my r1200r to follow how tos? Or are they completely different machines?
@erkans5495 - Thank you for watching and for the question. I think the main drivetrain is the same, so I would definitely search for GS videos as well, just to cast a wider net for the videos. You can also check the microfiche from one of the BMW dealer's website to confirm specific parts. It's a good question, I think many people ask themselves the same question (going between the R1200 series bikes). I should probably do a quick video on how to check those microfiches. Thanks again!
